Some guidelines to help you in your morning worship

A Morning prayer

Sometimes it’s good to find a quiet space, here are a few suggestions to help you

find that quiet space to spend time with God and to pray

Before you start spend some time being still and resting in God’s presence.

These points might help;

·       Sit comfortably with your back fairly straight

·       Release the tension in your neck and head, and then in all of your body

·       Listen to the sounds around you, first the distance ones, then the near ones.

·       Wait quietly O God, trust him, let yourself go into his hands.

You might like to say quietly to yourself the name of Jesus or Lord or other Father each time you breathe in

Be still, and know that I am God.

We come to God just as we are, you might find it helpful to say to God.

Here I am, Lord. I cannot fathom or hold you, I can only ask you to take hold of me. I cannot grasp or contain you in a formula or tradition, I can only ask you to fill me with yourself, and make me  part of the mystery of your presence in the world.

It might be useful to have a picture to look at and to help you concentrate, or candle or a cross.

Sit in quiet and silence do not be afraid of the silence

 An order of daily Prayer

Lord, touch my lips, that I may sing your praise with all my heart.

O God make speed to save me, O Lord, come to my aid.

Glory to God Father, Son and Holy Spirit, mystery of love, behind, through and beyond all things.

I worship the Lord all praise to his name.

As I turn my face to you, O God, let my worship be once more a new beginning,

cleanse my spirit with your mercy, draw me ever deeper into your love,

and accept my offering of praise and prayer on behalf of the world, through Jesus Christ our brother and our saviour.

At this point choose a psalm and a scripture reading.

Pause for reflection.

Versus from the Benedict

O you works of the Lord, O you angels of the Lord, O you heavens, bless the lord. Praise him at the magnify him for ever.

O sun and moon, O you stars of heaven, O you rain and you, bless the Lord. Praise him and magnify him forever.

O you winds that blow, O you fire and heat, O you frost and snow, bless the Lord. Praise him and magnify him forever.

Now let the whole Earth, and the souls of the righteous, and the people of God, bless the Lord.

Let us praise him and magnify him forever.

 A time of prayer

Pray for what’s on your mind, giving thanks, confessing anything you’ve done wrong,

asking for help and guidance, praying for others.

 Say the Lord’s prayer.

Almighty God, you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless till they find rest in you.

God grant us purity of heart and strength of purpose, that no selfish passion may hinder us from knowing your will,

and no weakness hinder us from doing it, but that in your light we may see light,

and in your service find our perfect freedom, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

I will bless the Lord. Thanks be to God.
